National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and prepare for their future and is always celebrated the first full week in February. At KES, we celebrate our awesome Guidance Counselor, Mr. Tommy Pollock, who is known around campus for his kind demeanor, helping hand, and inspiring example for doing good in the world! KES wants to say “THANK YOU, MR. POLLOCK”, for all that you do for our students and staff!! Whether it’s meeting with a student one-on-one for counseling, speaking to a class about good behaviors, dressing up to thrill our students, or just pitching in to lend a helping hand around campus…..YOU’RE THE BEST, Mr. Pollock!!!
Thursday, Jan. 24th, 2020 was a big day for our Kathleen family! We had an amazing turnout at our Family Math Night, and we also were celebrating our Teacher and Employee of the Year at the RP Funding Center. Congratulations to Mr. Sell (Teacher of the Year) and Coach Allred (Employee of the Year)!
KES 4th and 5th grade music students performed a wonderful holiday-themed concert, Monday night, Dec. 16th, 2019. Family and friends were treated to a variety of songs, and as usual, our awesome students and music teacher, Mr. Sell (aka KES 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year) did a fantastic job!
Top AR Top Readers were super excited on Friday, Dec. 13th, 2019 to have reward time on the traveling Tampa Gaming Trailer. Our top readers were able to play mega video games like Just Dance, Mario Cart, Mindcraft and more. They also had huge Connect4, Jenga and Corn-Hole outside games, as well. KES plans on another visit from the gaming trailer later this school year.
KES Kindergartners really enjoyed listening to a representative from MIDFLORIDA bank read the book “The Penguin Gets the Hiccups” to them right before leaving for Thanksgiving break. Each student received a free copy of the book to take home. Thank you, MIDFLORIDA!!
Officers from the Polk County Sheriff’s Dept. were here during Red Ribbon Week to speak to students about saying “No to Drugs”. Students enjoyed the presentations and learned about internet safety, too.
It’s still mighty hot outside, but this week 10News and Publix have been putting teachers and kids throughout the Bay Area in a holiday mood. That’s what hundreds of Tools for School boxes can do.
“Christmas came early!” 10News Anchor Ryan Bass announced as he entered one of our classrooms here at Kathleen Elementary. “Are you ready for some goodies?” Our students were so excited to receive the boxes of paper, pens, and markers.
A big THANK YOU shout-out to 10News and Publix for brightening our students day!
Our September Library Media Center Book Fair and the Title One Open House were both successes! Parents, students and staff enjoyed shopping for books and loads of miscellaneous items. Parents were able to visit our classrooms and learn about all the great things going on at KES. Thank you to everyone for your support!!
KES is off to a great start for the 2019-20 school year! Students are “falling in line” to this year’s school theme “KES Boot Camp”. They are already hard at work following school C.H.A.M.P. procedures, competing for the weekly AR trophy (Mrs. Owens 2nd grade class shown here) and checking out books from the Library Media Center. Way to go, Cougars! This promises to be another awesome year!!
